If the current obsession in the design world with all things white and bright, it’s only a matter of time before the pendulum swings the other way — and it’s all about achieving the highest contrast with black. Nothing pairs as beautifully with white as its dark counterpoint, and it can be used in dramatic and striking ways when it comes to your home. I’ve seen it used in several of the houses in CL and it’s not a trend that’ll be going away anytime soon.
I’ve been seeing lots of different iterations of shiplap, but this beautiful satin black finish creates a chic and striking backdrop for a happy playroom.
And it also creates a bold, textural focal point on these chevron barn doors.
If black paint is too much of a commitment, try black fixtures, or darker wood stains to get a similar look.
Dark grout pairs beautifully with these wide subway tiles and charcoal grey paint allow the built-ins to pop for maximum contrast.
Satiny brass hardware compliments this monochromatic bathroom with major vintage style.
A stunning kitchen with a creative spin on the steel window trend. I love the contrasting cabinetry and the marble backsplash. Timeless and chic.
This little scene is excellent inspiration for a weekend DIY. Find a vintage dresser and spray paint it black to get the same look on a budget.
Finally, for those who are fearless when it comes to color, check out this moody and dramatic exterior – even the pool is dark!
