Carlton Landing will be the home of a long list of fine people, but there will be only one “first.” Jeff and Rhonda Davis of Oklahoma City were the very first couple to purchase a new home in Carlton Landing. They were good enough to spend a little time answering some questions about their experiences and excitement over the project. Please enjoy these insights from Carlton Landing’s newest neighbors!
CL We know there are great places to live and vacation all over the country-why did you choose Carlton Landing over properties you were considering in Destin, Florida?
J&R Ultimately, we chose Carlton Landing because we know it will be world-class and it is much closer to family and friends. We actively searched for a property in Destin for over a year because we were looking for a great getaway location that would allow us to relax and enjoy with family and friends. Destin’s numerous planned communities such as Watercolor, Seaside and Rosemary Beach have a sense of community and slowed pace, which was a big draw to us. Ironically, we had already made travel arrangements to Destin with the intention of signing a contract on a property in Destin, when we became aware that Carlton Landing was making great progress. Upon seeing Carlton Landing, we knew instantly that this was a better choice for us.
CL What were your first reactions when you visited Carlton Landing?
J&R We both grew up in NW Arkansas, which if you’ve ever been there, you know how pretty it is with its lakes, rolling hills and beautiful landscapes. We immediately appreciated the peacefulness and beauty of the area, because it reminded us of where we spent a lot of our time when we were growing up.
CL With much so much of the property still under construction, how did you visualize what the neighborhood will become?
J&R Since we are very familiar with similar planned communities in Florida, it was easy for us to see and understand the Humphreys’ vision. We are so excited about Carlton Landing and what it will become-a peaceful and relaxing community with quaint homes surrounded by a beautiful lake and nature. That alone would be enough for us, but the other amenities, such as the community pool, the general store, the marina, and the farm will add so much uniqueness to the community, and we look forward to watching Carlton Landing grow.
CL I remember your reaction when you first saw the home plans and architecture that we have selected for Carlton Landing. Could you share some of those impressions?
J&R While looking for vacation property in the Destin, FL area, we knew we wanted a place that we could be proud of. A place that was comfortable. A place that looked and felt different from our primary home. We knew, just by looking at the home plans and architecture at Carlton Landing, that we had found something special that would allow us to get away for a weekend, or spend a quiet week of rest and relaxation surrounded by the beautiful lake and landscape. Just the quaintness of the community and the feeling of our house being a “home away from home” for us and our friends and family reassured us that this was definitely more than a real estate investment. This was an investment in our family and future.
CL Having visited great places like Seaside or Rosemary Beach, can you put your finger on similarities with or differences from Carlton Landing that you are excited about?
J&R We were very impressed with Seaside, FL. We loved the feel of “community” when we visited, and how the pace was just a bit slower than that of our normal lives. We are excited that Carlton Landing will also have the feel of a small community. It will be a place where we can relax and feel comfortable and forget about the stress of our everyday life for a while. We are also very excited that Carlton Landing is so close to us…just a 2 hour drive from the Oklahoma City area. Although we loved the idea of a vacation home in Florida, we would not be able to enjoy it as often as we will our Carlton Landing home. This is a development that will be done right. From the world-class design of Andres Duany to meticulous execution of every detail we have tremendous trust that this will become an iconic community in Oklahoma and the region.
CL What do you imagine a typical day with your family at Carlton Landing will be like?
J&R Simplicity! We can see ourselves spending the day on the lake, boating, skiing, or fishing. Enjoying each other’s company on the front porch with a glass of lemonade. Relaxing with our friends and family while enjoying a tasty dinner cooked out on the grill. Taking a walk along the lake, bike riding, swimming, playing frisbee or catch at one of the beautiful Carlton Landing parks. We look forward to slowing down, enjoying life, and spending quality time with our friends and family.
CL Any final thoughts to pass along to your future neighbors?
